Part 10 – Find your Identity & Create your BrandPosted 23/06/2014 by Rebecca Cannon
Your brand is a representation of your product – it should express your speciality and your style. But your brand is not just ‘you’. It must appeal to your target audience. So consider your customers.
- Are they busy parents who put their kids first?
- Are they party planners with a controlled budget?
- Are they affluent people who work long hours?
- Perhaps they’re brides-to-be with an extravagant wedding budget?
Think about what they look for when they are shopping for cake. This could be a personal service, a lot of creativity, or knowledge of favourite kids’ TV shows. Now you’re ready to think about your brand. The experience you’ll create starts with your brand identity.
If you specialise in creative sugar flower arrangements then your identity might be creative and feminine. If you’re targeting wedding planners then you might want to use traditional wedding colours like gold or silver and white. Your name is a reflection of your identity, too. ‘Yellow Bee Cake Company’ is perfect for a fun, bright birthday cake shop. ‘Red Riding Hood Weddings’ just doesn’t work.
Once you have a name and an idea of your identity, you’re ready to order some business cards. It’s important to carry them everywhere so you’re ready for enquiries!
